"I know we never got to touch base, but your services were recommended by DJ Winters (Local 31) this summer when I was informed I would have the opportunity to interview with a couple of fire departments down here, including Bend Fire Department which has been my absolute dream job ever since I started pursuing a career in firefighting 3 years ago. At the time, and all the way up to the point where I tested/interviewed with Bend Fire, I was deployed out on wildland fires as a part of a REMS module. At that point in the season, we would go days and sometimes weeks in the backcountry without adequate cell service to make a call let alone get an internet connection. I was however able to download every pdf, prerecorded video, and other accessible content from your site and practice the interview questions and have my crew members grade it based off your rubric. Despite not being available to receive 1on1 coaching, I could not have felt more prepared going into my interview, and I’m excited to say I’ve been formally offered and accepted a paramedic/FF position at my dream department. Thank you so much for all you’ve poured into the craft, I can say it had a profound impact on my preparation!" -Jonas Dahl

Body language is an important factor to consider during an interview, as it can communicate a lot about your personality, confidence, and interest in the job. Your body language can either support or undermine the words you are saying, and it is important to make sure that it is consistent with the message you want to convey.

Here are a few tips on how to use body language effectively in an interview:

  • Make eye contact: Maintaining eye contact shows that you are confident and engaged in the conversation. Avoid looking down or away, as this can signal that you are not interested or that you are hiding something.

  • Pay attention to your posture: Stand or sit up straight, as this conveys confidence and respect. Avoid crossing your arms or slouching, as these can signal defensiveness or disinterest.

  • Use appropriate gestures: Use open and natural gestures to show that you are relaxed and comfortable. Avoid fidgeting or using overly exaggerated gestures, as these can be distracting.

  • Smile: A genuine smile can help to create a positive and friendly atmosphere, and it can also show that you are happy to be there. Avoid forcing a smile or grinning too much, as this can come across as insincere.

By paying attention to your body language during an interview, you can help to create a positive and professional impression and increase your chances of being hired.
